Come and stay for the ultimate Samakanda experience, and witness how the jungle comes alive in the evening. Find sanctuary in one of our renovated bungalows, where you will watch birds swooping over the sunset with a cold drink in your hand, eat authentic Sri Lankan food and fall asleep listening to the jungle. Your stay will be fully catered, with a range of accommodation to suit all budgets. Discounts are available for volunteers, group bookings and longer stays.
The Planter's Bungalowsleeps 4 adults plus up to 6 children

The original 1920s plantation manager's home has been beautifully restored and modernised with views over the estate and the surrounding hills. Comprised of two double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, a third room suitable for children, plus a mezzanine level for further sleeping areas, the house is connected to mains electricity and equipped with solar hot water. The modern kitchen offers the option of self-catering and guests are free to experiment with the wood-fired clay pizza oven, traditional outdoor mud kitchen and barbeque areas. Outside, the main ambalama (pavilion) offers dramatic views over the Bowl and benefits from the cool breezes that make Samakanda such a contrast from the hustle and bustle of the Galle coast.

The Solar Bungalowsleeps up to 4 adults

Rebuilt using materials from the Samakanda estate and finished with a mud render, the bungalow faces a majestic mango tree with views beyond of the paddy fields and is ideal for bird spotting. The bungalow has one double and one single bedroom, a modern kitchen and bathroom, large living area and wide verandah with stunning views. Equipped with solar powered water and lighting, the bungalow also has a wood-fired clay oven outside, plus a small kitchen garden at the back with an outdoor ‘banana spiral’ shower fed by a bamboo pipe.

The Tea Bungalowsleeps up to 6 adults

At the centre of the tea estate and previously used as the tea manager's office, this newly restored bungalow has a large outdoor verandah, two double and one single bedrooms, a bathroom and small kitchen. The bungalow is well situated for access to the various hiking trails, down to the river, up the ridge or into the Banyan Tree zone. This bungalow is usually made available for volunteers wishing to come and work at Samakanda.
Low Season (May-Nov) - $30 per person per night
High Season (Dec-Apr) - $40 per person per night
