FOOD

Food is very important to us at Samakanda. The roots of the project stem back to the time founder Rory Spowers worked as a chef in London’s famous River Café restaurant. Rory’s passion for cooking led to his passion for growing fresh, nutritious, organic produce and thus led him down the road to Samakanda.

A number of celebrity chefs have passed through Samakanda over the years: TV chef and UK champion of ‘real food’ Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall; the late Rose Gray from London’s River Café; Peter Kuruvita, from Sydney’s famous Flying Fish restaurant, while Rick Stein’s BBC crew deemed our jak-fruit curry and ‘gotu-kola sambal’ to be the best they had tried in Sri Lanka.

Please contact us for more details about bespoke Samakanda Tours, rice and curry lunch demonstrations, or bike rides from the rainforest down to the beach, starting from US$40 per person. Come and get acquainted with wing beans, snake gourds and gotu-kola, or learn how to cook the perfect curried beetroot. Pick some of our fresh pepper and lemongrass, go tea plucking and experiment with our fresh green leaf, or fire up one our lcay ovens and make your pizzas.
